Yard Force 20V Mower & Grass Trimmer Set (33cm, Rear Roller)

What's included in this set and do I need to buy anything else to get started?

The set comes with everything needed for immediate use. You get the 33cm lawnmower, the 25cm grass trimmer, one 20V 5.0Ah battery and a charger. Since the battery is interchangeable between both tools you only need the one battery to run the mower and trimmer, though you'll need to charge it between uses on each tool. Some buyers have noted that marketing images show two batteries but only one is supplied in the box.

How long does the battery actually last on a single charge?

This is where reviews differ quite a bit. The battery is rated at 5.0Ah with an average life of around 5 hours, but this varies hugely based on grass length and thickness. Several customers found the battery only lasted around 15 minutes on longer or thicker grass before needing a recharge. Others reported no issues at all. If you've got a small to medium lawn with grass kept fairly short, the battery should cope fine. For larger or overgrown lawns you may need to charge mid-session or consider buying a spare battery from the Yard Force CR20 range.

What cutting heights can I use with the lawnmower?

The mower has 5 adjustable cutting heights ranging from 20mm to 60mm, controlled by a central height adjustment lever. This gives you flexibility whether you want a close cut for a tidy finish or a longer cut during drier months to protect the grass roots. The adjustment is quick to use with no tools needed.

Does this mower collect grass clippings or do I need to rake up after?

Yes, it comes with a 30 litre hybrid grass collection bag. This bag has a full-level indicator flap that tells you when it needs emptying, so you're not constantly checking it. Front and side grass combs help direct cut grass into the bag for better airflow and collection. That said, one reviewer noted that damp grass can sometimes build up at the exit point if the motor doesn't clear it fast enough, so very wet grass might need more frequent bag emptying or slower passes.

Will this mower give my lawn that striped finish like the ones you see on football pitches?

Yes, the mower has a rear roller specifically designed to create a striped or stripy lawn effect as you mow. This works by bending the grass in different directions with each pass, which reflects light differently and creates that classic striped look. It's a feature usually only seen on mowers at higher price points, so it's worth noting here.

Is the grass trimmer any good on its own or is it just a basic add-on?

The trimmer has a 25cm cutting width and uses a bump feed spool with a single line. It features a rotating tilting head and a telescopic shaft, so you can adjust it for comfort whether you're trimming edges or reaching under bushes. It's lightweight and easy to manoeuvre according to several reviewers. One customer even gave their trimmer away to their daughter since they only needed the mower, which shows it works fine as a standalone tool too.

How heavy is this set and is it easy for one person to use?

The whole set weighs 8.6 kilograms, which is light compared to petrol mowers. Multiple reviewers specifically mentioned how easy it is to manoeuvre around the garden. The soft grip handle and full bale on/off lever also help with comfort during use. Assembly is straightforward too, with several buyers noting there wasn't much to put together before first use.

What happens if something goes wrong with the mower or trimmer?

Yard Force backs this set with a 2+1 year guarantee. This means you get 2 years as standard plus an additional year, likely through product registration (check Yard Force's terms for registration details). The mower is manufactured by Sumec in China. If you're in the UK and the charger shows a UK plug as standard, note that buyers ordering from other EU regions have reported receiving UK plugs that need an adapter.
