Mountfield Princess 38 Li Kit (48V, 38cm, Rear Roller)

How long does the battery last before it needs charging?

Each battery gives you roughly 12.5 minutes of mowing time. The mower comes with two 48V lithium-ion batteries, so you get around 25 minutes total runtime before a recharge is needed. That's usually enough for a garden up to 350 square metres. If your lawn is bigger than that, you'll need to charge one battery while using the other, or plan your mowing in stages.

What size garden is this mower designed for?

This mower is built for small to medium gardens up to 350 square metres. The 38cm cutting width makes it quick to manoeuvre around flower beds and tight corners. If you've got a larger plot, this probably isn't the right mower for you. It's made for people with modest lawns who want a quick job done without fuss.

How much does the mower weigh and is it hard to push around?

It weighs 14 kilograms, which is light for a mower with this cutting width. The body is made from polypropylene, a durable but lightweight plastic. This keeps the overall weight down without sacrificing strength. Combined with the ergonomic handle design, it's easy to push and turn even on uneven ground. You won't tire out quickly pushing this one around.

How many cutting heights does it have and how do I change them?

There are 6 adjustable cutting heights ranging up to 6cm. Adjustment is done through a single centralised lever, so you don't need to fiddle with each wheel separately. This saves time and keeps things simple. One reviewer did note the lever can feel a bit loose, but it still does the job of changing height quickly between cuts.

Does this mower collect grass clippings or can it mulch instead?

Both options are available. It comes with a 40 litre grass collector for picking up clippings as you mow. Alternatively, you can switch to mulching mode, which chops clippings finely and returns them to the lawn. Mulching adds nutrients back into the soil, which can reduce how often you need to fertilise. It's your choice depending on what you want from your lawn.

Will this mower give my lawn a striped finish?

Yes, it has an integrated rear roller specifically for creating stripes as you mow. This is a feature usually found on more expensive mowers, so it's a nice inclusion here. That said, one customer review mentioned the roller felt lightweight compared to a previous Mountfield model, so results may vary depending on your grass type and length. A front comb also helps lift grass upright before cutting, which improves the overall finish.

What warranty is included with this mower?

Mountfield offers a 5-year warranty on the mower itself, though terms and conditions apply. This covers manufacturing defects and gives you reasonable peace of mind for a mower in this category. It's worth checking the specific warranty terms before purchase so you know exactly what's covered and what isn't, since some reviewers reported mixed experiences with warranty claims through certain sellers.

Are the batteries compatible with other garden tools?

Yes. The 48V STIGA ePower batteries are compatible with the Freedom500 range of tools. This means if you already own other STIGA ePower tools, or plan to buy some later, you can use the same batteries across multiple devices. This cuts down on the number of chargers and batteries you need to keep around the shed. It's a practical setup for anyone building a battery-powered garden tool collection over time.
